The foundation of Wild Hearts are our Equine Therapists! We provide our loyal horses with the highest quality of care - which costs approximately $6,000 per year per horse. $6,000 provides each horse with hay, grain, health supplements, medications, bedding, farrier care, routine chiropractic care/saddle fitting, routine dental care, and routine veterinary care for one year. (Our horses live with Executive Director, Julie Lovely, and therefore we save approximately $4,000 per year, per horse on monthly board)
Please consider joining our Adopt-a-Horse program! A plaque bearing your name will be placed on your adopted horse's stall, and you will receive an update regarding your horse during the year. And, of course, to see your adopted friend, we would be happy to arrange for visits. Adopt a horse and make a new friend today!
Adopt-a-Horse* (all donations may be paid in installments)
* Please note that only Kipper, Watson, Echo, and Lars are available for our adopt-a-horse program.
If you're interested in adopting a horse, please contact Julie Lovely, Executive Director at 508-857-1737 or jlovely@wildheartstherapeutic.org.
Kipper was our very first Wild Hearts horse. Thanks to a generous donation by Tanya Belmore, Kipper joined us in October 2011. Kipper is a Paint horse and you'll always recognize him by his two different colored eyes - one is blue and one is brown! Kipper has taught countless people to ride and is known for his patience and sweet personality. He loves hugs and can't get enough treats!
Echo was generously donated to Wild Hearts by Jim Towne in April 2012. Echo wins everyone over with his big, kind eyes and his puppy dog personality. He is a Spanish Norman Horse - "a rare and exclusive breed which blends the genes of the Andalusian of Spain and the Percheron of France, to re-create the courageous horse that thundered across the battlefields of Europe."
Jimmy & Bootsie are miniature horses owned by our executive director, Julie Lovely. They were rescued by Dutch Downs in Uxbridge, MA from a hoarder. Jimmy still bears the scars on his back from severe neglect. Thanks to Dutch Downs who tirelessly rehabbed him back to health, Jimmy now spends his days playing with his two best friends, Bootsie and Izzy. Jimmy and Bootsie may be little, but they are BIG on personality!
Watson is generously on loan by Jessica Hopgood. Watson is a Pinto Pony. He is known for his smooth trot and his ability to stand perfectly still while students throw beanbags, twirl hula hoops, and toss rings. Watson loves a good grooming and can't wait for his treat after each lesson!
Lars is generously on loan by Kim Deeney. Lars is a Fjord horse known for his distinctive black dorsal stripe that runs the length of his mane. Lars loves attention and will stand for hours for a good grooming - he even likes being vacuumed! Kim has owned Lars for 20 years and we're so fortunate that she's loaned him to Wild Hearts!
Izzy, a Morab, is owned by our executive director, Julie Lovely. True to the breed, Izzy is smart and inquisitive which makes him perfect for our unmounted programming including Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy, Equine Facilitated Learning, and Horses for Heroes. Izzy best friends are our miniature horses, Jimmy & Bootsie.
